THE RAZZ: CHURCH ADDS TO DEE DAY Aug 17 2005 Beverley Lyons And Cath Bennett WELSH singing sensation Charlotte Church has been confirmed as part of the line-up for one of Scotland's biggest free outdoor music events.
The teenage chart-topper will perform at Aberdeen's Free at the Dee music event next month.
The announcement comes after McFly pulled out, just weeks after being confirmed as the headline act.
The boyband cancelled their appearance to instead record a charity single with The Who star Roger Daltrey.
The last Free at the Dee, held two years ago, attracted more than 45,000 people and acts such as Liberty X, Girls Aloud and David Sneddon.
This year former Blue singer Lee Ryan and rising Scots stars El Presidente will join Charlotte at the event in Duthie Park on September 4.
The event started out as local radio station NorthSound's birthday party, but has become a launchpad for the Offshore Europe exhibition.
NorthSound Radio's programme controller, Chris Thomson, said: "We are all really excited. A host of big names will make sure it's a great day for everyone at Duthie Park and also those who are listening live on NorthSound 1 and 2 www.dailyrecord.co.uk/therazz/daily/tm_objectid=15865049%26method=full%26siteid=89488-name_page.html

SINGER CHARLOTTE CHURCH WILL TOP BILL AT FREE AT THE DEE by CAMERON BROOKS
09:00 - 17 August 2005[/b] Classical singer turned pop star Charlotte Church is topping the bill at Free at the Dee next month. It was announced yesterday that the 19-year-old will be appearing at Scotland's biggest free music event in Aberdeen on September 4. Concert organisers announced that former Blue singer Lee Ryan will also be appearing at the concert in Duthie Park. Scots band El Presidente will also be bringing their blend of funk, rock and disco to the stage. The news will help ease fans' disappointment after boy band McFly pulled out of the pop party. They are recording a charity single with Roger Daltrey, frontman of The Who, instead. Charlotte McIntosh, of organisers Northsound Radio, said it was a massive coup to secure the services of the Voice of an Angel star and Lee Ryan. "We are absolutely delighted she is coming as she is one of the biggest names around just now," [/b]she added. "We have great links with record companies and our programme controller Chris Thomson was the one who secured her, getting conformation this morning. "Lee Ryan is a great artist and the single he has out at the moment, Army of Lovers, is very strong and his next single, Turn Your Car Around, promises to be the same. "It is great he has agreed to appear as Blue were a huge band and he has come out one of the strongest members who have gone solo." Miss Church started out as a classical music star at the age of 13. She is the youngest artist to have a number one album in the UK classical charts. The Cardiff-born singer will perform tracks from her new album Tissues and Issues, including Crazy Chick and her forthcoming single, Call My Name. She is currently dating Welsh rugby star Gavin Henson, 23, but it was unclear whether he would be accompanying her to the north-east for the concert. Other acts to be confirmed on the bill include former Busted star James Bourne's new band, Tyler James. Former Happy Mondays backing singer Rowetta, who is now known for her appearance on television's the X Factor and Love Bites, is also lined up to appear. Aberdeen girl band Girl Said No are also performing along with newcomers Sandy Thom, Samantha Seth, Fleet and Freestyle. More than 45,000 people attended the popular event last year, which featured Liberty X, Girls Aloud and ex-Steps singer Lisa Scott-Lee.
