STAR SHINE ON THE HOE TRISTAN NICHOLS
12:00 - 15 August 2005
The stars shone brightly on Plymouth Hoe yesterday afternoon - when pop acts took to the stage for the annual Pirate FM Big Gig. Thousands packed the promenade to watch Charlotte Church, Mark Owen, Liberty X and Daniel Bedingfield perform their hits.
Chorale girl turned pop diva Charlotte Church opened the show to the delight of the predominantly young audience.
Speaking to the Herald after her performance, the 19-year-old said: "Plymouth Hoe is a lovely setting and the crowd were really warm and receptive."
Daniel Bedingfield was equally full of praise for the venue.
"It's always a good craic down here. I love coming down to Plymouth."
Dani Johnson, 16, who won the chance to meet Daniel Bedingfield backstage in a Herald competition, said: "He was amazing. He's such a nice guy."
Former Take That member, Mark Owen said: "We got here early so I went shopping in town. I got myself a nice sailor T-shirt and had a cream tea.
"It's so beautiful here looking out over the sea. It's not every day you get to play somewhere like this."
The audience created a party atmosphere, dancing, singing and clapping throughout the concert.
Other acts included former Blue member Simon Webbe, Andy Scott Lee, Rowetta from X Factor, Eighties trio Bananarama and Noise Next Door www.thisisplymouth.co.uk/displayNode.jsp?nodeId=133478&command=displayContent&sourceNode=133186&home=yes&contentPK=13012479&localNewsNodeId=133168
